What’s Your Superpower?

Yesterday I attended a reception to discuss a grass roots movement with a bunch of women I didn’t know other than the hostess, also known as The Diva of Awesomeness (in my head).

As I stood around holding my cucumber and mint infused sparkling water, I watched The DofA work the room.

She knew important info about EVERY attendee, and then she proceeded to introduce each person to someone that they could potentially have something in common with.

By the time she escorted a short, snappy blonde my way, I was hip to her game, and wondered what she would say about me.

She introduced me as a writer, and went on to talk about my experiences in social services and how that has shaped where I am. Long story short, when she was finished with my introduction, I was impressed with myself!

And I ended up spending most of the evening talking with a really cool lady that I would have never imagined I had anything in common with. #MajorWin

I later realized that one of the things that makes this woman The DofA is the fact that she is genuinely interested in people and makes it her business to learn about the great things that folks are doing. Her superpower is connecting the dots for unsuspecting do gooders.

Personal goal for the last quarter of 2014: identify my superpower.

Find your superpower.

NOW.

Just Do It

When my alarm went off  at 6:00 this morning, I turned it off and rolled over. I didn’t feel like running. I’m on vacation damn it!

Except when I went back to sleep, I ended up dreaming about running.

When I sat down to write, all I could think about was the run I didn’t do. And now I’m writing about the run I didn’t do.

So, instead of being an hour out of my day, running has now been with me all day.

I will  run today.

And while it will feel like I’m slogging through pea soup because it will still be in the 80s and very humid this evening, running will get checked off my list.

This is what happens when you don’t do something you love. It doesn’t leave you. It just hangs out in your head all day like a pesky younger sibling swinging her legs on the chair in your room while waiting for you to give it some attention.

Just do it!

Yet Another Blog

Words are my passion. Yeah, I know I said that on my About page, but it’s true.

We all have something that we are passionate about. Just look at the number of blogs and websites that exist if you need proof. You can find a blog about the weirdest things. I have. No need to mention any of them here.

And yet, that isn’t stopping me from adding another blog to the mix.

Because writers write. Blogs, books, articles, random words on pages during meetings. Doesn’t matter to us. I couldn’t not write any more than I could not breathe.

But don’t worry. I plan to write about things you can use or may find interesting. And no, it won’t be all about my life. I won’t say that some elements of my life won’t seep in, but I usually save the good stuff for my fiction.

Useful tips for reading this blog: take what you need, ignore the rest, and comment when you feel moved to do so.
